In a radio interview over Radyo Kiphodan 99.1 FM, Yvone Indunan explained that FP is having the desired number of children and when to have them to avoid mistimed and indefinite period of pregnancy and birth by using safe and effective modern methods.
“FP is a health intervention that contributes to the reduction of maternal and child mortality. It is also anchored on four pillars like birth spacing, informed choice, responsible parenthood and respect for life,” she said.
Indunan said couples are given the freedom to choose from all range of methods what they will use that include natural FP methods, artificial and permanent. “At present there are eight males who availed the non-scalpel vasectomy,” Indunan added.
She also explained that FP helps prevent high risk pregnancies among women who are too young, too old, too close or too ill to bear children; unplanned pregnancies and closely spaced pregnancies that lead to and worsen such conditions as anemia and maternal malnutrition.
“Properly spaced children at least three years will be given the love, attention, care and time from parents to attend their growth and development and be provided more opportunities for adequate food, clothing, good education and good health,” Indunan said.
The PHO staff also enjoined all pregnant women to utilize the services of birthing facilities in their respective barangays or municipalities for safe delivery. (JDP/MBL- PIA CAR, Ifugao)
