BFP – CAR officials headed by F/CSupt. Maria Sofia Mendoza hosted reception rites for the new recruits at the Wangal Sport Complex here Monday (July 8). Their stamina was tested with exercises that included 8 Counts Push-up, Mountain Climbing, Flutter Kick, Squat Thrust, Modified Jumping Jack, Knee-High, Knee Bender and Buttocks-up.
The newly recruited FO1 composed of 56 males and 44 females will undergo two months training at the regional office in Tuba, Benguet and then another four months training at the National Fire Training Institute based in Calamba, Laguna before they will be officially assigned to the different fire stations in the region.
Mendoza reminded the new recruits that they have chosen to enter the fire service so they must prove that they are worthy in carrying the BFP’s mandate especially on fire prevention and suppression.
For their training, Mendoza emphasized the BFP’s goal of producing multi-skilled personnel who can work with unison and can tackle both physical and mental stress during operations on all types of disasters and emergencies.
“We are trying to build them as one group with rapport and camaraderie so we can train their teamwork and leadership and become what we call now the modern day heroes.” Mendoza added.
BFP – CAR has current manpower of 822 fire officers manning the different fire stations in 59 municipalities and cities in the region. (JDP/CCD-PIA CAR with B. Gawigawen & CJ Dela Cruz/UC Interns)
