According to District Engineer Lorna B. Asutan, the newly-upgraded road connects the town of Lasam in Cagayan to Sta. Marcela in Apayao.
Asutan said the completion of the project will help in bringing development opportunities that will uplift socio-economic status of the residents in the area.
“This road will also shorten travel time from Lasam, Cagayan to the different places in the Apayao Province,” she said.
Aside from the concreting of the said tertiary road which amounted to P62.265 million funded under the General Appropriations Act of 2018, the project also included the installation of drainage system and slope protection structures.
Asutan said DPWH-CSDEO also completed the first phase of road upgrading in the same road section which spans 1.292 kilometers with a budget of P31.175 million.
She added that two bridges with a total worth of P32 million were already constructed to make the Ayaga-Sta. Marcela-Flora-Lasam road section fully usable to the public. (ALM/PIA-2/with reports from MBA/Raquel A. Salibad and Edmarlyn Leigh A. Ricafrente, DPWH-CSDEO)
