Be good citizens, Ifugao RDPs Urged

KIANGAN, IFUGAO (PIA)- - “Exert all efforts and become good citizens of the community.” This was the general advice to 71 Recovering Drug Personalities (RDPs) from this town and the municipalities of Banaue, Alfonso Lista, Asipulo, and Tinoc during the 2nd General Assembly meeting of the Cycle 2 Ifugao Reflection Campers held at the municipal gym here last August 10.

The meeting attended by the families and relatives of the RDPs, provincial, municipal and barangay officials including members of the Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Council (PADAC), Municipal Anti-Drug Abuse Councils (MADAC), Barangay- Anti Drug Abuse Councils and personnel of the Addiction Recovery Support Group (ARSG) of the Ifugao Reflection Camp (IRC), was intended to evaluate the relevance of the Community-based Drug Abuse Rehabilitation System (CDARS) of the IRC through the progress of their recovery in the 18-month aftercare or re-integration system as provided under Republic Act 9165.

The 71 RDPs are the second batch of drug surrenderers who availed of the IRC services and have graduated for completing the full cycle of basic treatment of the CDARS and now on their 7th month period in the after-care system.

During this period, their performance while re-integrated in their respective communities are being monitored to determine interventions for their full recovery and transformation before being completely released to the community.

Members of the ARSG, PADAC, MADAC, BADAC and the local officials urged them to be thankful to the local government for spending much for their rehabilitation so they should take this opportunity to fully reform and begin a new and productive life as members of society.

They were also advised to take great effort during the 18-month aftercare and re-integration period of which they are being monitored to show and prove their sincerity of reforming because before when they were into drugs, they were ostracized and disrespected . But now, they are accepted and respected.

In the ongoing 18-month aftercare or re-integration period, the TESDA informed that they are providing skills training to some RDPs. The e DOLE has given livelihood assistance to 33 RDPs amounting to P160,000 .

On their part, the RDPs also reported that they have been rendering community services and volunteer works, undergone trainings and seminars on disaster response, moral and spiritual recovery and livelihood activities, gather and split firewood during community occasions, church construction, road clearing and rehabilitation and attending meetings required of them.

The first graduates had their similar general assembly meeting and evaluation in Tinoc last August 14. They are now on the verge of finishing the 18-month aftercare and re-integration activities.

Ifugao PNP Provincial Director SSupt. David Peredo, meanwhile, announced that Ifugao is now a drug-cleared province and in fact it has received an award for providing this kind of services for the rehabilitation of drug personalities.( PIA Ifugao)
