Joint DENR, PNP team scores in anti-illegal logging drive

KIANGAN, Ifugao, July 20 (PIA)- - The relentless anti-illegal logging campaign of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) with the assistance of the Philippine National Police (PNP) yielded positive result as they seized 4,935.155 board feet of assorted species and various sizes of illegally cut lumber at a house in Barangay Poblacion here.

The confiscation of the hot lumber valued at about P173, 000 was by virtue of a Search and Seizure Order issued by Judge Bill Buyuccan of the Bagabag Municipal Trial Court for violation of Presidential Decree 705 otherwise known as the Forestry Reform Code of the Philippines as amended.

The PNP group led by Police Senior Inspector Peter Cawitan and P/Ins. Mike Angelo Refuerzo of the Ifugao Police Mobile Force Company (IPMFC) together with the DENR personnel headed by CENRO Lamut Chief George Dean Baywong Jr. served the warrant. Upon failure of the occupants to show pertinent legal documents, the lumbers were then confiscated and inventoried in the presence of two barangay officials.

The seized items were turned-over to the DENR Office in Lamut for custody and safekeeping. (PIA Ifugao)
