112 Ifugao young professionals hired under DOLE’s GIP

LAGAWE, Ifugao, July 20 (PIA)- -One hundred twelve young professionals of this province are working under the Government Internship Program (GIP) of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Kabataan Program.

The interns started working last June 14 until December 14, 2018 after submitting all the necessary requirements to the DOLE-Field Office here.

The interns who are deployed in the different local government units or national government agencies work as administrative assistants and will receive a stipend or allowance of P225/day. However,   the LGUs or NGAs are encouraged to subsidize their wages considering that most are college graduates and the province has limited industries for their first work experience.

DOLE-Ifugao Labor and Employment Officer 3 Joseph Tuguinay explained that the GIP started in 2015 by virtue of DOLE’s Administrative Order No. 39-A to provide young workers particularly the poor, the opportunity to demonstrate their talents and skills in the field of public service with the ultimate objective of attracting the best and the brightest who want to pursue a career in government service in the fields and disciplines related to labor and employment.

Moreover, it aims to fast track the implementation and monitoring of DOLE programs and projects related to employment facilitation and social protection, which directly contribute to the goal of inclusive growth through massive employment generation and substantial poverty reduction.

To qualify under the program, one must at least be a high school or vocational-technological graduate and between 18-25 years old. (PIA Ifugao)
