Farmers organization receives assistance for milling machine

LAGAWE, Ifugao, July 28 (PIA) - - Budget for transporting rice products for milling at the Poblacion  here will  no longer  be a problem   for residents of  barangay Caba with the acquisition of a brand new rice mill by a community organization.

The Caba Farmers Multi-Purpose Cooperative (CFMPC) recently received a check worth more than P.4 million from the Department of Labor and Employment for the purchase of one unit rice mill with stoner.

The milling equipment is proposed by the cooperative to DOLE for funding under its Community Enterprise Development to lessen expenses and time of the cooperative and non-members in bringing their harvested palay to the town proper for milling. This is also seen to encourage farmers increase the volume of rice production and expand rice business even to other municipalities of the province.

The local government unit (LGU) of Lagawe allocated a P100, 000.00 as counterpart for the purchase of one unit rice mill housing.

Officers of the CFMPC hope that with the purchase and installation of the milling station, the cooperative will continue to sell rice grain in the community nearby barangays and to supply other costumers outside the barangay that would increase the profit of the cooperative.

Barangay Caba is an agricultural place with a land area of 622.68 hectares. Marcelo B. Lihgawon (JDP/MBL- PIA CAR, Ifugao)
