Ifugao PDRRMC regulates release of information during calamity

LAGAWE, Ifugao, July 21 (PIA) - - Gaining lessons from the previous disasters, the Provincial Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Council (PDRRMC)is set to regulate the release of information in times of calamities.

The PDRRMC members   agreed that as part of the Command Incident Sytem (CIS), only local chief executives or their duly authorized spokesperson shall be responsible  to release official statements, information  or reports from the council to the public and other partner agencies especially the media.

The council lamented that in past calamaties or incidents, there were  unverified or unofficial  information or reports released or posted in the social media that created  misinformation putting the credibility of local disaster councils at stake.

Council members are also advised to refrain from posting unverified information or photos in the social media especially when lives are involved in order not to create another disaster to concerned individuals or parties.

Request for assistance from the provincial government through the PDRRM office should also be endorsed by the local government unit.

“All proposals from the barangays and municipalities relative on clearing and infrastructure projects to be funded under the PDRRM fund must be endorsed by the Municipal DRRM before submitting to the PDRRM office as part of its protocol,” OIC-Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Officer Cecil Unghiyon informed.
