Ifugao town reconstitutes solid waste management board

HUNGDUAN, Ifugao, July 4 (PIA) - - The increasing volume of garbage  which  poses threat to the general welfare of the people and the environment has prompted the Local Chief Executive of this town to reorganize the Municipal Solid Waste Management Board (MSWMB).


Mayor Hilario Bumangabang issued Executive Order No. 15 series of 2017 reorganizing the MSWMB and expanding its membership to include the academe for effective and efficient management of garbage in the municipality for an ecologically-balanced environment.

The MSWMB is chaired by the municipal mayor with vice mayor as the co-chairperson. Members are all punong barangays; Sangguniang Bayan Committee Chairperson on Health; heads of municipal and national offices, principals of elementary and high schools and non-government organizations.

 The board is tasked to develop the Municipal Solid Waste Management Board Plan that shall ensure the long-term management of solid waste, as well as integrate the various solid waste management plans and strategies of the barangays in its area of jurisdiction.  It will adopt measures to promote and ensure the viability and effective implementation of solid waste management programs in its component barangays and a systematic revenue-generating measure to promote the viability of its Solid Waste Management Plan. Monitor the implementation of the Municipal Solid Waste Management Plan through its various political subdivisions and in cooperation with the private sector and the NGOs.

It is also tasked to develop specific mechanisms and guidelines for the implementation of the MSWMP and recommend the appropriate local government authorities specific measures or proposals for franchise or build-operate-transfer agreements with duly recognized institutions.  Marcelo B.
