They were also informed about the three pillars of the ASEAN Community which are the Political-Security Community led by the Department of Foreign Affairs to ensure that there will be peace, fairness and harmony among the members, the ASEAN Economic Community headed by the Department of Trade and Industry which envisions to unite the ASEAN Region with the free movement of goods, services, investment, skilled labor and free flow of capital and the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community led by the Department of Social Welfare and Development that also aims to build a caring and sharing community.

The audience were able to learn during the IEC that the theme for this years’ Philippine Chairmanship of the ASEAN is “Partnering for Change, Engaging the World” that aims to highlight ASEAN as a model of regionalism and global player with the people at its core which reflects the Philippine Government’s advocacy to promote unity with and among ASEAN member states and its global partners.

It was also explained to the students, teachers and school officials that the Philippines will focus on six thematic priorities which encompass the political, economic and socio-cultural aspects that include a people-oriented and people-centered ASEAN, peace and stability in the region, maritime security and cooperation, inclusive, innovation-led growth, ASEAN’s resiliency and ASEAN as a model of regionalism and a global player.
