Lagawe re-organizes its MDRRMC

LAGAWE, Ifugao, May 31 (PIA)- - Mayor Martin Habawel Jr. of this capital town recently re-organized the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC)  to make it more effective and efficient.

Composing the new MDRRMC are the mayor as the chairperson.  Members consist of the MDRRM Officer, Municipal Planning and Development Officer, Municipal Social Welfare and Development Officer, Municipal Health Officer, Municipal Budget Officer, Municipal Accountant, Municipal Agriculturist, Municipal Engineer, DILG Local Government Officer, highest ranking officer  of the Armed Forces of the Philippines assigned in the area, Municipal Fire Marshall, Bureau of  Jail Management and Penology Administrator, Association of Barangay Ccouncil president, and representatives from  civil society  organizations, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Sangguniang Bayan and Philippine Information Agency. The MDRRM Office shall serve as the secretariat of the council.

The council shall  approve, monitor and evaluate the implementation of the Council’s Plan and annually review, test and develop the plan consistent with other national and local planning programs, ensure the integration of disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation into local development plans, programs and budgets as a strategy in sustainable development and poverty reduction, recommend the implementation of forced pre-emptive evacuation of local residents if necessary and convene the council as provided by the law.

Its meetings will be held once every three months on the date and place to be determined by the body but the Chairperson may call for a special meeting as he may deem necessary and the council shall promulgate its internal rules for the meetings.

The mayor claimed that the re-organization will effectively enable the council to comply with all the provisions of Republic Act 10121 or the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management System law from planning, implementation and monitoring and also to hold all the officials in town accountable and responsible to the people for their protection and recovery during disasters or calamities.  Daniel B.
