Blooming Ladies of Ifugao town venture in organic swine raising

AGUINALDO, Ifugao, May 10 (PIA)- - Twenty members of the Blooming Ladies Association (BLA) of this town underwent a training on swine raising and organic feed formulation so that they can venture into organic swine raising as an additional source of income for their families.

The training was conducted by the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVET) spearheaded by its Training Coordinator Ferdinand  Dunuan and Senior Agriculturist Gilbert Caclini.

Hog raising is now   popular in the municipality as a backyard industry due to improved roads and transportation coupled with the abundance of organic materials in the area for ingredients in the formulation of organic feeds for  livestock.

With the training, the women group learned  the appropriate technology in organic swine production such as the skills and knowledge in making organic feed for their animals, proper planning and the use of current technology for their project. This  would  help them save cost and realize more profit to improve their quality of life instead of using commercial feeds which is also destructive to the environment

Dunuan  taught them about breeding management, care  management and feeding management while Municipal Veterinarian Elsie Banagyo  discussed animal health management.

Cacline lectured  on fermented feed formulation and the hands-on practicum on the preparation of fermented feed for swine and poultry using the indigenous materials the participants  brought.

The group  is  starting  its  livestock project with the help of the municipal and provincial government. Daniel B. Codamon (JDP/DBC- PIA CAR, Ifugao)
