More than 100 volunteers donate blood in Benguet

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet, Aug. 3(PIA) -- More than 100 volunteers pitched  in to donate blood in less than 30 minutes in this capital town last week.

 

Philippine Red Cross – Benguet Chapter Administrator Oscar Paris said at least 135 blood donors participated in the “100 Donors in 30 Minutes”   blood donation activity organized by the Provincial Local Blood Council.  

Paris said that the Benguet Red Cross collected more than 60, 000 cc of blood from blood donation drive conducted in celebration of the 2018 Blood Donors Month.

With the theme, “Be there for Someone Else, Give Blood…Share Life”, the event was geared towards the attainment of 100 percent voluntary blood donation,  Paris said.

The Provincial Blood Council led by Vice Chair and Benguet Board Member Robert Namoro thanked the blood donors for their support to the event. He said the blood that they donated will go a long way and will help people in need of blood not only in the province of Benguet but also nearby areas.

Meanwhile, the Provincial Blood Council awarded plaques and certificates to the different individuals, groups and institutions that have been supporting the Red Cross in its advocacy for blood donation.

Blood Galloners awardees or those who have donated blood for a minimum of nine donations or at least 4000 cc of blood were  Shirley Mae Ambros, Jesmardon Bagayao, Shirlen Banga-an, Gabriel Calantas, Laurence Dominguez, Rechelle Fianza, Jomar Lesino, Jim Bruce Mendoza, Jane Octubre, Dionie Paing, Glenn Palao-ay, Minerva Pangos, Glenn Sali-em, Jovie Teliaken, Naycer Tulas, Madona Yagyagen, Watchman Yangco, Rodolfo Yares and Nora Willy.

Group awardees  were also given certificates of appreciation for their participation in the bloodletting activities in the province . Awrdees included  local government units of Bakun, Buguias and Kibungan; the Philippine Councilors League- Benguet, Mountain Province Broadcasting Corporation – DZWT radio station, North Angels and Junneth De Guzman.

Diploma of service also was given to the Lepanto Consolidated Mining Company Hospital, Hedcor Inc., local government unit of Sablan, Barangay Alapang in La Trinidad, National Irrigation Authority-Cordillera and the Benguet National High School. This award is given in recognition of at least two years of distinguished service as a leader or official of a unit with minimum of 100 units as cumulative total. 

Scroll of honor was awarded  to the Kings College of the Philippines for at least four years of distinguished service as a leader or official of a unit with minimum of 200 units as cumulative total.

 The Benguet Red Cross also awarded trophies to the outstanding blood service partners  or those who have donated for more than 150 times. Awardees were the Saint Louis University – National Service Training Program, Bombo Radyo Baguio and the local government of La Trinidad. (RMC-PIA CAR & ISU Interns)

Bell Church

Mt. Pulag

Kabayan Mummies

Also know as the Fire Mummies of the Philippines, the Kabayan Mummies are from the Ibaloi tribe of Benguet. This have been included in the 100 Most Endangered Sites in the World by a non-profit organization that focuses on the preservation of important historical monuments and sites.

The Ambuclao dam is popularly known as the biggest rock filled dam in the Far East and is considered as one of the major projects in Luzon that feeds electricity to the grid lines of Luzon.

Rose Gardens

Rose lovers will surely be pleased with Rose Gardens. A famous tourist attraction located in La Trinidad. Here, you will find a large variety of roses, chrysanthemums and other ornamental plants.

Mt. Ugo

This is considered to be one of the major destinations in the Cordilleras. It is the highest mountain located in Tinongdan, Itogon via the Benguet-Vizcayay boundary that boasts of stunning views of neighboring mountains and the great Luzon valley.
