MRRD-NECC supports Cordillera’s bid for autonomy towards federalism

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet, July 26 (PIA) -- The organization that convinced then Mayor Rodrigo Roa Duterte to run as President vowed support to the pursuit of Cordillera Regional Autonomy.

Mayor Rodrigo Roa Duterte – National Executive Coordinating Committee(NECC) National President and Agrarian Reform Secretary John Castriciones said that the MRRD – NECC organization will help the Cordillerans attain autonomy towards federalism.

Castriciones during his visit in Benguet province last week, said the concept of autonomy is instilled in the proposed federal constitution submitted to Pres. Duterte by the Constitutional Committee.

“The proposed federal constitution mentions the Cordillera and the Bangsamoro as special areas in the concept of federalism,” he said.

Castriciones explained that the MRRD – NECC is mandated to support the advocacy of the President particularly on the fight against illegal drugs, criminality and corruption, insurgency and poverty and especially for the push for a change in a federal form of government. He said that the propagation of federalism in the country is getting stronger with the support from the more than three million members of their organization.

He added that the MRRD-NECC also has been quite successful in its campaign on federalism as most of the proposals for the new federal constitution have been adopted by the Constitutional Committee which drafted the proposed constitution submitted to the President.

“At least 75 percent of the suggestions of the MRRD-NECC has been incorporated in the proposed federal constitution of the Philippines,” he added.

Castriciones was in the Benguet Provincial Capitol to conduct a dialogue with Benguet officials led by Governor Crescencio Pacalso, the agrarian reform beneficiaries and other farmers on the programs of the Department of Agrarian Reform.

Aside from presenting DAR programs that would benefit the province, Castriciones also took time to talk on federalism and its benefits and advantages.

After the dialogue, Castriciones meet with members of the MRRD-NECC Cordillera to discuss issues and concerns particularly on the recent activities of the group. (PIA CAR)
