TUBLAY, Benguet, June 16 -- Members of the Association of Persons with Disabilities of Tublay (APWDT) are now accepting sewing and embroidery job orders.
These were trained and provided equipment through the Community Based Project of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) -Cordillera Administrative Region Provincial Science and Technology Center-Benguet.
“Maragsakan kami ta adda ti mabalin nga trabahoen mi malaksid ijay panag-garden babaen iti dytoy tulong ti DOST kadami” (We are happy we have work to do aside from working in the farm through the help of the DOST), said Crispin Leaňo, APWDT president.
The project was approved in December 2016 through the support of the local government unit of Tublay.
Last February, high speed sewing machine, edging machine, zigzag sewing machine and embroidery sewing machine were provided to the association.
To enhance the knowledge and skills of the members, a training on advance sewing was conducted last April.
Clemente O. Blanco of Bea Grace General Merchandise, a DOST -assisted firm, oriented the members on the different parts of the machine and how to operate it.
The participants had hands-on practice on straight sewing, cutting and how to create designs from computer to the embroidery machine. They were able to produce eco-bags, jersey sando and t-shirt for women as their outputs during the training.
The group has gone a long way, and is now into sub contracting sewing job orders.
“Tatta ket addan ti sub-contract job order mi nga agaramid iti school uniforms iti maysa nga pagadalan idiay Baguio” (We have sub-contracted school uniforms of a school in Baguio), Leaňo happily informed. (PIA/CGDionisio-PSTC,Benguet)
