BAGUIO CITY, Aug. 16 (PIA) - -The Light Youth Gathering Group, through National Youth Commission’s Youth Organization Regional Program and other partners, is all set for the “Videoke Challenge” for crime prevention advocacy and campaign against illegal drugs.
Dubbed as “Sama – samang Ikanta ang Paghadlang Sa Krimen at Korapsyon”, the Videoke challenge which is one of the highlights of the National Crime Prevention Week (NCPW), will have its grand finals on September 2 during the Youth Prom Against Illegal Drugs and Crime Prevention.
There will be elimination rounds in six areas in Baguio. It will also include talks on crime prevention and illegal drugs at the Imelda/Bakakeng area (Aug. 18); Dontogan/Santo Tomas (Aug. 19); Pacdal/Gibraltar and Aurora Hill area (Aug. 25), Loakan/ Kias area (Aug. 26); and at the Central Business District/Abanao area (Aug. 30).
The Videoke challenge semi – finals is set on August 31 at the People’s Park, Light Youth Gathering Group Head Joe Rizalino Verzosa said.
National Police Commission Regional Director Editha Puddoc outlined that NCPW 2018 adopts the theme, “Mamamayan, Sama – samang Makialam upang Krimen at Korupsyon ay Hadlangan”. It aims to focus on strengthening police - community partnership in fighting crime and corruption, which is among the government’s priority thrusts.
By virtue of Presidential Proclamation No. 461 (series of 1994), the first week of September of every year is declared as National Crime Prevention Week. For the Cordillera though, the 24th NCPW will be celebrated from September 2 – 12, Puddoc said.
The formal launching of NCPW 2018 is set on September 3 with a joint flag raising of the Police Regional office –and NAPOLCOM at Camp Bado Dangwa with the NAPOLCOM Vice Chair and Executive Officer Rogelio Casurao as guest of honor.
It will be followed by a briefing on the new police operational strategy - Community and Service Oriented Policing- for the PNP Command Group, the different regional police divisions and officials/members of the PRO – Cor Press Corps. (PIA CAR)
