BAGUIO CITY, June 4 (PIA) -- Government project implementers such as local government units and state universities and colleges in the Cordillera region are encouraged to avail of the assistance provided by PPP Knowledge Corner to boost the various developments in their localities particularly on infrastructure projects.
The National Economic and Development Authority – Cordillera in partnership with the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Center launched the PPP Knowledge Corner at the NEDA-CAR Regional Office at the Botanical Garden in Baguio City last week.
NEDA Assistant Secretary and PPP Center Executive Director Ferdinand Pecson, NEDA-CAR Regional Director and Regional Development Council Vice Chair Milagros Rimando with Department of Trade and Industry -CAR Regional Director Myrna Pablo and RDC Private Sector Representative, Dr. Ferdinand Gonzales led the ribbon cutting to formally launch the PPP Corner.
Pecson said that the PPP Knowledge Corner will help step up the uptake of PPPs in the Cordillera region and provide the PPP Center a regional presence.
The corner, which will be opened to the public will facilitate access to more learning materials and sharing of knowledge, capacity building and technical assistance to various government implementing agencies under the PPP Program.
PPP offers monetary and non-monetary advantages for the public sector. It addresses the limited funding resources for local infrastructure or development projects of the public sector thereby allowing the allocation of public funds for other local priorities. It is a mechanism to distribute project risks to both public and private sector. PPP is geared for both sectors to gain improved efficiency and project implementation processes in delivering services to the public. Most importantly, PPP emphasizes Value for Money – focusing on reduced costs, better risk allocation, faster implementation, improved services and possible generation of additional revenue.
With the upbeat economy of the Cordillera region and the support from the PPP Corner, more infrastructure projects are seen to be implemented thru the PPP and the Build Build Build program of the Duterte Administration, Rimando said.
She encouraged various LGUs, SUCs and other implementing agencies in the region to take advantage of the PPP Knowledge Corner which will be helpful in implementing development projects in their different areas.
“The launching program is not only a launching but it will usher in partnership for development for the LGUs, SUCs and other implementing agencies with the NEDA, RDC and the PPP Center,” Rimando said.
With the presence of the PPP Knowledge Corner in the region, she sees more projects to be implemented and be given priority particularly under the RDC-Regional Development and Investment Plans such as the development and modernization of the Loakan Airport; the maintenance and improvement of Kennon Road; the development of hydro power plants in the different provinces; the expansion of the Philippine Export Processing Zone Authority outside of Baguio City; and other development priorities in the different provinces in the Cordillera.
