BAGUIO CITY, Mar. 5 (PIA) -- The Bureau of Fire Protection Cordillera Regional Office welcomed March with the launching of the observance of Fire Prevention Month which for this year adopts the theme, “Ligtas na Pilipinas Ang Ating Hangad, Pag-iingat sa Sunog ay sa Sarili Ipatupad”.
BFP–CAR officials and personnel headed by Regional Director Fire Sr. Superintendent Lilibeth Simangan, led the representatives of various regional line agencies and other partners to an advocacy rally around the city’s main thoroughfares that ended with a fire safety and prevention covenant signing.
Simangan also led other department heads of BFP–CAR in providing updates on their accomplishments and present status and thrust of the fire department in a Kapihan media forum at the Baguio City Fire Station.
Simangan assured the work dedication and commitment of the 755- strong men and women personnel of BFP–CAR in performing their mandate on fire prevention and suppression and the strict enforcement of the Fire Code of the Philippines.
She also called on the public to become fire safety advocates in their homes and in their communities.
“While the BFP conducts inspections on government facilities and commercial establishment but when it comes to ensuring fire safety in every house/home, it lies with the members of the family, which is why I am encouraging everybody to be fire safety advocate,” Simangan stressed.
Each life is precious and fire incidents endanger life and can cause the loss of properties that each person or family has worked hard for, she added.
For the observance of Fire Prevention Month in Cordillera, scheduled events include simultaneous blowing of horns of all firefighting apparatus; fire safety awareness campaign in elementary schools that will be spearheaded by the BFP mascot Berong Bombero (March 3 to 9) and a Bike for a Fire Safe Nation cycling activity for bike enthusiasts on March 10.
BFP–CAR, through the various fire stations in the region, will also conduct refresher training course to all volunteer fire brigades and barangay disaster control brigade within their area of responsibility. There will also be an open house activity where each fire station will invite school children for fire truck and equipment and proper use of fire extinguisher demonstration and lectures/orientation on fire safety.
The BFP in line with strengthening camaraderie among the bureau will also conduct a fire prevention games and contests, from the regional level up to the national level. Carlito C. Dar(JDP/CCD- PIA CAR)
