Call it tough luck, but the Carlos Anton – Milo Rivera tandem is set to bring home a silver from Taiwan.
The two race car drivers settled for a second place finish in the Team Double Knock Event during the Asia Auto Gymkhana Competition (AAGC) held in Taoyuan, Taiwan last weekend.
Anton, an eight time AAP Driver of the Year and four time Slalom king, Milo Rivera proved their worth in the international competition by edging powerhouse Japan in the final four competition and swiftly disposed of the Japanese with impressive runs.
Taiwan knocked out Indonesia to make it to the finals against team Philippines. It was down the closest margin that host team Taiwan took the win over the Philippine tandem. “Team Taiwan got us by less than .1 of a second in the end.
They prepared really hard for this and we gave it our best, but in the end it was just not our day,” Castrol-Yokohama driver Carlos Anton said after the race. Indonesia prevailed over Japan for 3rd place with Japanese racing legend Tetsuya Yamano taking home the top prize in the individual knock-out competition over Taiwan’s Tseng Kun-Yao and Indonesia’s 5- time national champion Demas Agil. 13-year old Baguio Achiever’s Academy student Iñigo Anton, meanwhile wowed the crowd and other racers with his demo runs.
“It was a great experience and a dream come true for me to race with the top racers in Asia,” Iñigo said. “He beat 12 drivers from 9 countries. We didn’t expect him to do that well so we are just really thankful that he proved to be a force to reckon against 32 of Asia’s best racers. We are so proud of Iñigo.” Iñigo’s father Carlos said.
