BAGUIO CITY, July 31 (PIA) -- Congressman Mark Go vows support to President Rodrigo Duterte and be a partner for a better Baguio and a better country.
The lone district representative of Baguio City expressed his appreciation of the President’s efforts for a holistic development in every aspect of the government and his support for the President’s general direction and policies. However, he seeks for concrete action plans from the administration that would give the people a clearer picture of how the government should move forward.
Go lauded the efforts and vision of the President towards industrialization, environmental protection, and good governance which were among the highlights of his second State of the Nation Address on Monday.
Duterte in his SONA, highlighted the administration’s aim of a 7% GDP growth by 2022, further boosting the national economy thru the implementation of various infrastructure projects amounting to 8-9 trillion pesos.
“Crucial to this economic growth is the strengthening of our local productivity thru industrialization, we must veer away from our traditional role as mere exporter of raw materials and empower our local industrialists and inventors,” Go said.
A firm advocate for human capital development, Go also expressed his support on the President’s commitment in providing people with quality and affordable health services by expanding health insurance coverage and benefits.
While indispensable towards national growth, Go expressed his concern that mining should be done with utmost caution as it may instead irreversibly destroy the environment. He further noted that such effects would be detrimental not only to the economy but to future generations of Filipinos.
Meanwhile, the proposed bill on rightsizing of the national government, HB 5707, was passed on third and final reading on Wednesday in an immediate response to the President’s call for the measure during his SONA.
Go, a co-author of the said bill considers the passage a “triumph for the government and a move towards the right direction in strengthening the bureaucracy.”
To complement to the rightsizing of the government’s manpower, “a modification in people’s attitude as well as positive disposition and work ethic would bring about a more significant improvement in the delivery of public service. As the President himself pointed out, such answer must begin with those occupying the highest positions in the government and I promise to be part of the answer” Rep. Go added. (RMC- PIA CAR)
