BAGUIO CITY, July 26 (PIA) - - -More than 100 rondalla musicians performed recently at the CAP-John Hay Trade & Cultural Center strengthening the magical effects of music in this mountain resort.
The culminating concert titled K’libet brings together musicians trained by the country’s best music mentors and rondalla players during the 1st Rondalla Music Camp also held in the city. It covered a variety of styles including baroque, classical, romantic, folk and contemporary.
National Artists for Music and camp director Ramon P. Santos arranged formidable pieces as part of the repertoire including Midsummer Night’s Dream Overture by Felix Mendelssohn. It was the first time that a rondalla ensemble of 100 musicians played the romantic masterpiece that was originally written for symphony orchestra.
K’libet is Santos’s play on the word kalabit in reference to the kind of action that is needed to play plucked string instruments.
Santos bared that the end goal of the 1st Rondalla Music camp was to technically train rondalla musicians to such a level of skill that it would be possible to conceive of a National Rondalla Orchestra. (JDP/JBZ –PIA CAR)
