BAGUIO CITY, June8 (PIA) - - The Philippine’s campaign against illegal drugs can be further strengthened and even expanded to the Southeast Asia region through closer cooperation among the Association of South East Asian Nation (ASEAN) member- nations.

Towards fostering peace and stability in the ASEAN region, one identified means is to strengthen cooperation in the campaign against illegal drugs given the threats from drug abuse and drug trafficking on the security and stability of the nations.
Calulut , during the PIA- led kapihan media forum on ASEAN, said that cooperation with ASEAN member nations through sharing of information can strengthen the campaign against illegal drug suppliers and personalities within the region.
Along with the campaign against drug supply/suppliers, cutting off the local demand through the present programs of the government is equally important in the war against illegal drugs, Calulut added.
PDEA as being part of the security sector will continue to work with its mandate on suppression of illegal drugs in the country, he said.
Meanwhile, Calulut informed that the anti-drug campaign in the Cordillera is now focused on clearing the 19 drug – affected barangays in Baguio City and three baranagys in the province of Benguet based on PDEA – CAR’s list.
The Police Regional office – Cordillera already declared the provinces of Abra, Apayao, Ifugao, Kalinga and Mountain Province as illegal - drugs free provinces. (JDP/CCD with J. Esmele-PIA CAR/UC Intern)
