BAGUIO CITY, June 2(PIA) -- The Philippine Military Academy(PMA) welcomed 285 new cadets who will compose the PMA Class 2021 in Incorporation ceremonies at the Borromeo Field at Fort Del Pilar here last Sunday( May 28).
Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Vice Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Salvador Melchor Mison Jr. led the military leadership in welcoming the 285 new plebes into the Cadet Corps of the AFP.
Mison in his keynote message encouraged the new cadets to continue to be good models and proud members of the AFP as they start their journey at the PMA.
“PMA assures you the highest standards for you to be men of honor. We are soldiers and cannot fail in our mission, so you have to be committed,” said Mison.
Amidst what is happening in the country today, Mison also encouraged the incoming fourth class cadets to always defend and protect the country and the Filipinos. He said that as soldiers it is their commitment, their duty to defend, protect and serve the country.
The new cadets are incorporated as regular members of the CC-AFP after long and arduous weeks of "Beast Barracks,"
“After having completed the New Cadet Battalion Training, a grueling and life changing seven-week course that intends to test, transform and prepare novice individuals to embrace a strict and regimented life in the academy, the 285 strong plebes composed of 245 males and 40 females now proudly wear their full dress whites as they march on the sacred grounds of Borromeo Field,” the PMA said.
Through the Incorporation Ceremony, the new cadets now take their place in the different squads of the eight companies making up the Cadet Corps. Where before the new cadets occupy separate barracks and are kept apart from the rest of the Corps except for the members of the Plebe Detail, now they join the rest of the Corps in all activities. It is a meaningful ceremony since it symbolizes that the new plebes are now truly fit and worthy of being called cadets. (JDP/RMC/ J. Esmele, S.Yusuf, K. Valdres- PIA CAR/UC Interns)
