BAGUIO CITY, May 25 (PIA)- - In order to accommodate more patients at the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC), Baguio Representative Mark Go filed House Bill 5442 seeking to increase the hospital’s 500 bed capacity to 800 beds.
The BGHMC does not only cater to patients in the city but also from neighboring towns and provinces. There is a yearly increase of admission thereby there is really a need for additional facilities to address the concern, said Go.
BGHMC is a Tertiary Medical and Training Center with Medical Ancillary Services and a retained hospital under the national government.
Record shows in 2015, BGHMC bed occupancy rate has reached 133.92% with a total admission of 37, 022. In 2016, it exceeded 144.17% of its normal occupancy rate admitting a total of 37,577 patients.
“Presently, BGHMC caters 80 percent indigent patients including Philhealth funded patients. As of February 2017, its bed capacity rate has reached to 114.32 percent with total in-patients of 16, 005,” Go noted.
Given that in many instances that some patients are being accommodated along the hallway, Dr. Emmanuel Acluba, BGHMC medical center director, lauded and support the move of Congressman Go saying that
‘We need to enhance the facilities of the hospital, hire extra personnel and recruit specialist doctors and we need to improved our services, Acluba emphasized.’ (JDP/JBZ -PIA CAR)
