BAGUIO CITY, May 19 (PIA) -- Members of the Casamata Hill National Park – Protected Area Management Board (CHNP-PAMB) in Bangued , Abra have picked up some learnings from the Upper Agno River Basin Resource Reserve (UARBRR) – PAMB on asserting their role in the management of their protected areas.
The CHNP-PAMB of Bangued visited and had interaction with their fellow PAMB of the UARBRR of Baguio City last May 11 to observe how the UARBRR-PAMB implement their policies over the protected areas under their care even with existing claimants prior to the proclamation of their PAMB.
The role of the UARBRR-PAMB for instance is recognized by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and seeks its approval before implementing their road building project within the protected areas.
The ALPHALAND Baguio Mountain Log Homes, Inc. also seeks the PAMB’s approval of its housing and resort development projects within the titled lots that are located within the jurisdiction of the protected area.
The CHNP-PAMB also visited the Tam-Awan Village, a Garden in the Sky in Baguio City, to get some insights on how they would establish a similar project that would showcase Abra’s cultural traditions for the various ethnic groups of the province.
Casamata Hill National Park is the only breathing area for the town of Bangued as it is now polluted due to the increasing number of vehicles , and it is the goal of the CHNP-PAMB to preserve it. Maria Teresa B. Benas (JDP/MTBB - PIA CAR, Abra)
