BANGUED, Abra, July 20(PIA)--The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) is determined to work for better disaster resiliency to lessen the impact of calamities among the people of Abra.
It has come up with various activities in observance of the National Disaster Resilience Month to raise the awareness of the Abreñeans on disaster preparedness. These activities include the u tree planting, Information Education Campaigns, and conduct of the flood drill since many areas here are flood-prone.
Over 250 employees from the 49-member agencies of the PDRRMC participated in the tree planting with the Department of Education headed by Superintendent Amador Garcia as host-agency last July 18 at Pilar Rural High School (PRHS) in Pilar.
Dr. Ernest D. Baris, principal of PRHS, led the Senior High School students in assisting the PDRRMC members who participated in the planting. Baris said they welcome everyone who wants to plant in their 57.3 hectare-school compound. This year, three hectares are reserved for planting.
PDRRM Officer Elmer Bersamin thanked the DepEd and the PRHS for hosting this year’s tree planting activity. He also thanked the People’s Organizations being assisted by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources that donated the seedlings planted. These are the Baticang Farmers’ Association of Brgy. Siblong, Bucay that gave 50 bamboo propagules, and the Callao Farmers’ Association of Villaviciosa that gave 200 Gemelina seedlings. PENRO provided 300 Gemelina seedlings.
An IEC activity on the use of warning devices will be carried out by the Department of Science and Technology on July 30 at the Governors’ Gallery.
The flood drill will be conducted in Brgy. Aguet, Lagangilang on July 31. The flood drill will be participated by the PDRRMC responders and volunteers as well as the people in the community. (PIA Abra)
