BANGUED, Abra, March 12 (PIA) -- The women of Abra danced their hearts out to shake off extra pounds and inches on their bellies on March 8, 2018 in celebration of International Women’s Day and Abreñean Kawayan Festival.
This year’s theme of the Women’s Day celebration, “”Make Change Work for Women” inspired organizers to introduce some renovations such as the Dance Craze Competition. This was participated by 16 local government units with the dancers led by the lady mayors and the wives of male mayors of the municipalities.
The participation of the lady mayors and the first ladies of the male mayors was a part of the judging criteria.
Bangued LGU emerged the top winner in the Dance Craze contest with cash prize of P50, 000.00. First runner-up was Lacub LGU winning P30, 000.00 while second runner-up was Danglas LGU with P20, 000.00 cash prize.
The floral parade of women in the afternoon was colorful. Each municipality had their floats adorned with flowers and their local products representing their One Town One Product (OTOP).
The day’s activities culminated with the Coronation Night of the Search for Mr. and Miss Abra. Crowned as Mr. and Miss Abra were Mr. Bangued and Miss Bucay. The tandem of Mr. Lacub and Miss Tayum won as first runner-up while Mr. Bucay and Miss Bangued landed second runner-up. Maria Teresa B. Beñas (JDP/MTBB – PIA CAR, Abra)
