BANGUED, Abra, Feb.12 (PIA) -- Philippine National Police Chief Director General Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa on Sunday, February 4, was present in the opening ceremonies of the Cordillera Administrative Region Athletics Association (CARAA) meet 2018 in this capital town to stand with the officials and show that Abra is a peaceful province.
“I was motivated to come here in Abra because of the incident to see for myself kung ano ba talaga nangyari dito at gusto kung ipakita na the PNP is here to serve and protect,” said Dela Rosa who was invited by Governor Joy Bernos as a guest during the CARAA opening ceremonies.
Dela Rosa was referring to the January 25 grenade blast incident during the Abel festival celebration in La Paz, Abra that killed two police officers including a Mamasapano survivor and injured 11 people including Abra Congressman Joseph Sto. Nino Bernos and his wife, Mayor Menchie.
Dela Rosa said that they are now looking on at least three possible persons of interests in the grenade blast incident but did not give details. “By all means we have to solve this case,” he vowed.
He expressed dismay over the continued presence of lawless elements in the province who undermine the gains of the people, the local government and the local police of Abra in sustaining peace and security in the province.
“Your PNP will not allow these lawless elements the chance to further advance their motives,” he assured.
Police Cordillera Regional Director PCSupt. Edward Carranza informed that the PNP chief has earlier ordered the suspension of all Permits to Carry Firearms Outside of Residence (PTCFOR) and Permits to Transport and Purchase of Explosives/Explosive Ingredients in Abra to ensure the safety and security of all athletes, tourists and residents who will attend the various events in the province like the CARAA from Feb 4 to 9, the Bangued town fiesta from Feb 23 to 26 and the Abra Kawayan festival on March 1 to 9.
Meanwhile, the PNP chief awarded the Medalya ng Kadakilaan to the late PO3 Carlos Bocaig, one of the two fatalities in the grenade blast when he went to his wake in Manabo, Abra with Congressman Joseph Bernos and Carranza. He also awarded financial support to the family of the late PNP Special Action Forces survivor of the Mamasapano crisis.
