BANGUED, Abra, Jan. 30 (PIA) -- As the number of vehicles and building constructions increase, technological capacities have to be improved to meet demands for their services.
Such need for improved technology is now being addressed by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) in collaboration with the Metals Industry Research Development Center (MIRDC), an attached agency of the DOST based in Bicutan, Taguig City.
The DOST-Abra Provincial Field Office conducted a two-day training last January 17-18 on electroplating to 21 Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and individuals operating their own machine and welding shops.
The training focused on the use of Zinc Electroplating which is used for screws and other tools for surface treatment that the shop owners usually apply in their work. It also imparted the improved technology on chrome and gold electroplating in order for the shop owners to cater to other needs and demands of their customers.
Engr. Wilfredo Lim of the MIRDC headed the training team.
Provincial Director Menandro Buenafe challenged the participants to be more competitive in their business operation to be able to expand and increase their productivity and profitability.
Consequently, these SMEs are expected to have the capacity to generate more employment opportunities in their respective communities thereby contributing to inclusive development that the national government is seriously working on.
Buenafe informed that DOST provides free trainings, more trainings are lined up for more SMEs in the province. Another skills training is set to be conducted at the DOST-Provincial Office next month. (JDP/MTBB – PIA CAR, Abra)
