LANGIDEN Abra, July 31(PIA)- - The local government unit of this town across the Abra River put together three activities in one big event bringing festive mode for the people.
The State of the Municipality Address (SOMA) of Mayor Artemio “Billy Boy” Donato, Jr., the National Nutrition Month celebration, and the induction of the officers of the Kalipunan ng Liping Pilipina (KALIPI) Langiden Chapter were conducted on July 24 at the Langiden Municipal Gymnasium.
In his SOMA, Donato acknowledged and thanked the efforts and initiatives of the former mayor, Engr. Boyet Castillo, who sourced the project funds for the road building and flood control systems that he is now implementing.
Donato likewise reported that the LGU has increased its budgetary allocation for medicines and also increased the number of their scholars in college. He appealed for the support and understanding of the residents as he explained why the LGU staff need to go around to collect their taxes as these revenues are plowed back to them in the form of basic social and infrastructure services.
He also expressed that while he understands the difficulty of not having roads especially during the rainy seasons, he appealed to the people of Mabungtot and Malapaaw for their patience to wait for their roads to be concreted next year.
Donato also reported that their employees are now reporting to office daily and on time and in their prescribed uniform.
Meanwhile, the Nutrition Month celebration had dance competitions participated by the school children and the KALIPI members from the different barangays. The cookfest among the women made use of the local vegetables particularly the malunggay leaves, squash flower, bamboo shoot and fresh water fish and shrimps. The cookfest gave the women innovative means of cooking and presenting their recipes so that, local as the veggies are, could be appreciated by their family members even if these are served daily on the table.
Mayor Donato also administered the oath taking of the KALIPI officers headed by the wife of the mayor, former Vice-Mayor Secel Palecpec.
Decimia D. Cabang congratulated the KALIPI for making the woman organization active in pushing the local program for empowering the women, while Provincial Nutritionist May June Adriatico-Algarne appreciated Municipal Health Office for the preparations made in the Nutrition Month celebration.
