BANGUED, Abra, July 31(PIA) -- A provincial ordinance mandating all municipal local government units (LGUs) to create Municipal Tourism Offices for more effective implementation of local tourism programs to attain “Awesome Abra” is being sought.
In a meeting called by the Provincial Tourism Office headed by Rosemarie A. Collo last July 27, the Municipal Tourism Officers requested Sangguniang Panlalawigan Member Ma. Elena A. Jenkins, chair, SP Committee on Tourism, to sponsor a provincial ordinance creating the offices of local tourism in all municipal LGUs and providing funds thereof.
Jenkins had authored and sponsored a resolution for the adoption of a Tourism Code of the province to guide the operation of the local tourism offices to promote and sustain the local tourism program.
During the said meeting, the local tourism offices Bangued, Pidigan, Bucay, Danglas and San Juan presented their potential tourist attractions and their tourism program.
Marilou Bolante-Marbella, head of the Provincial Cooperative Development Office, shared her insights and experiences on Enterprise Development that is a major component of tourism promotion. She shared that in the first few months of the PCDO operation under her management, the Partuat the Abra that showcases the province’s local products has generated more than half a million pesos in their sales.
Joy Lalin of the Tourism Enthusiasts, who serves as tourism consultant in the Office of Congressman Joseph Sto. Nino B. Bernos, also presented how his group with volunteer members has started promoting the different tourist attractions in the province through the help of bikers and motorists and photographers in their group.
