Abra revives Week for Peace

BANGUED, Abra, July 6(PIA) - - The province of Abra is up for back to back celebrations next week.

‘Rambak ti Kappia’  will be launched on July 10, 2017 in time with the arrival of the Unity Gong   caravan at the Provincial Capitol Atrium.

“Rambak ti Kappia” is a revival  of the Abra Week for Peace celebration of the past administration.   Its theme is “Taginayunen ti Kappia, #JOYn na!”

The Abra Week for Peace   used  to be celebrated on the first week of December  but due  to the   hectic schedule of the provincial government last year in the preparation for the Centennial Anniversary celebration of the province last March,  it was  postponed indefinitely, Governor Ma. Jocelyn Valera-Bernos explained.

The provincial government has chosen the month of July for the launching of the Rambak ti Kappia in time for the Cordillera Month celebration.

Several activities are lined up for the week-long celebration. Peace Playlist  will  be aired the whole week  over the local radio stations for people to feel the spirit of peace in the air;  Indigenous Peoples’ Elders Summit and Blood-Letting for Peace;   License to own and possess firearms caravan;   People’s Day in Tubo;    Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council Training;   Mural painting and Dance Showdown;   Panel Discussion on Children in Conflict with the Law;   Assembly of former rebels and their families with a Holy Mass for Peace and Inter-Faith Prayer for Peace; Peace Fellowship for agencies working for peace, and   the culmination activities highlighted by the State of the Province Address by the Governor, Parade of Lights and Luminous Fun Bike.

The Unity Gong caravan is one of the highlights of the Cordillera Month celebration.  It will kick-off in Benguet on Saturday and will go around the different provinces in the region to sustain the call for regional autonomy and empowerment.

The caravan is  lead by  officials of the Regional Development Council. Maria Teresa B. Benas(JDP/MTBB - PIA CAR, Abra)
