Suspected Baguio gun-running head nabbed

A SUSPECTED leader of a local gun-running syndicate was nabbed by Abra Police early Wednesday morning, April 26.

 

Police arrested the leader of “Balagan group” Edwin Dela Peña Balagan, 45, in his residence at Sitio Madago, Barangay San Ramon West, Manabo, Abra during an operation and confiscated one caliber .45, two magazines for caliber .45, 11 ammunitions for caliber .45, and 91 ammunition for caliber 5.56 rifle.

Authorities confirmed that the “Balagan group” is an unlisted criminal group but believed to be involved in gun-running activities and responsible in supplying illegal firearms to criminals in Abra and nearby provinces.

Pedrito Bustillo Silvano Sr., also known as June, resident of Camp 6, Kennon Road, Tuba, Benguet were also arrested following the confiscation of a caliber .38 revolver with four ammunition.

Another gun keeper identified as Gavino Ducayag was arrested in his residence at Sitio Barikir, Barangay San Antonio, Bangued, Abra after several firearms and ammunitions were seized in the morning of April 27.

Seized were one Elisco M16 rifle with defaced serial number, one GA 12 Shotgun loaded with two ammunitions, two long metal magazine for M16 rifle, six short magazine for M16 rifle, 66 ammunitions for M16 rifle, nine ammunitions for GA 12 shotgun, and one ammunition for cal .9mm.

With its intensified drive against criminality in the region, the Police Regional Office (PRO) in Cordillera reported crime volume decreased in the region in the first three months of the year compare to the same period last year.

PRO-Cordillera reported there is a 35.62 percent drop in crime volume for the past three month with only 2,341 as compared to last year's 363.

Index crime also posted a 58.46 percent decrease with only 550 compared to 1,324 last year.

Theft remains the highest index crime reported for the first three months with 34 percent while physical injuries close second with 33 percent. Rape, robbery, and murder are in the top five of the most committed crime in the region. (Roderick Osis) Sunstar Baguio
